Emmanuel Adebayor Confirms Talks With Tottenham Hotspur Over Permanent Deal On Twitter

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has confirmed he is in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a permanent deal to join the club.

The Togolese spent the entire 2011/12 season on loan at White Hart Lane, scoring 18 goals from 37 appearances.

On Monday morning, he tweeted: "Loved my spell at Tottenham. We are working hard with the chairman to make it permanent. Will keep you informed!!"

Adebayor's wages are likely to be a stumbling block, since he is earning over £100,000-a-week off of City.

Spurs owner Daniel Levy is renowned for his parsimony, with not one member of the playing staff earning a weekly six-figure sum at the club.

Adebayor signed for City in the summer of 2009 for £25m from Arsenal, but found himself out of favour with Citizens manager Roberto Mancini, who succeeded Mark Hughes in December that year.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a fruitful loan spell in the second half of the 2010/11 season at Real Madrid, whom he helped win the Copa del Rey.

Adebayor arrived in England in January 2006 when Arsene Wenger parted with £7m to sign the Monaco striker.
