Police investigating the deaths of six children in an arson attack in Derby have asked the public to be patient and understanding as rumours sweep through the Allenton community.
Describing the inquiry as "complex" Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cotterill of Derbyshire police said: "The investigation team are as committed as I am to getting to the truth behind the fire but we are still in the early stages.
"I am aware of rumours and speculation within the community and media but I refuse to be drawn into that and simply ask for patience and understanding to allow us the time to get to the truth without jumping to conclusions.
Detectives confirmed five days after the tragedy that the seat of the fire was below the letterbox in the front door of the property and that petrol was thought to have been used as an accelerant.
Jade Philpott, 10, and her brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jessie, six, and Jayden, five, all perished in the fire, while 13-year-old Duwayne Philpott died of his injuries in Birmingham Children's Hospital two days later.

Cotterill added that "due to the volume of information coming into the investigation, it is imperative that the inquiries are conducted properly and thoroughly. Each piece of information needs to be painstakingly scrutinised."
"Forensic examination of the scene of the fire is continuing and officers are also examining vehicles in connection with the inquiry, as well as studying CCTV footage.
"We continue to help and support Mr and Mrs Philpott and their wider extended family at this distressing time."

Mr Philpott, said to have fathered 17 children, is well known in the local community because of media reports about his large family.
He was dubbed "Shameless Mick" in 2007 after reportedly demanding a larger council house.
