European Championship 2012 Build-Up: Holland And Czech Republic Serve Up A Classic At Euro 2004 (VIDEO)

WATCH Great European Championship Matches: Holland 2-3 Czech Republic (Euro 2004)

Regarded as the toughest football tournament, the European Championship is invariably the most exciting too, as Euro 2004's greatest game stressed so memorably.

On June 19 eight years ago, Holland-Czech Republic was, quite simply, one of the most absorbing games of football in recent times. Full of dreadful defending and awesome attacking, there were 36 shots at goal and even British newspapers' TV columns were eulogising the spectacle.

Both sides faced one another in qualifying, with the Czechs winning both games. One of the favourites for the tournament, their forward line of Milan Baros, Jan Koller, Tomas Rosicky, Karel Poborsky and national icon Pavel Nedved - whilst anchored by Tomas Galasek - was as functional as it was exceptional.

Holland meanwhile boasted the prolific Ruud van Nistelrooy, while the much-hyped and Chelsea-bound 21-year-old Arjen Robben was making his tournament bow, having sat out the Dutch's opening 1-1 draw with Germany.
