Man Charged After Driving Wrong Way Around M25 In Police Chase

A man has been charged after a motorist drove the wrong way round the M25 in a police car chase.

The driver arrived on Britain's busiest motorway using an exit sliproad and travelled about six miles up the hard shoulder in the opposite direction of traffic.

The black Vauxhall Astra was not stopped until it left the road at the next junction.

Earlier, at around 4.40am yesterday, it is said to have failed to stop for police on the A22 in Godstone, Surrey, and was then followed on to the M25 at junction six.

On Sunday night Surrey Police said Christopher Jones, 26, of Rhyl, Denbighshire, has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen, driving without insurance and breach of bail conditions.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at North Surrey Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man, also from Rhyl, who was also detained, has been freed on police bail until July 20.
