With less than 50 days to go until the Olympics open in London, Boris Johnson is undertaking a mini-tour of the United States to sell his book the city to Americans.
Appearing on NBC's Today Show on Thursday morning, The New York born mayor of London said the Queen's Jubilee celebrations showed the city would be able to cope with the influx of foreign toursits.
"It was a big tick for us, it was very important because everyone was watching us," he said. "We coped fine."
"I'd say to all viewers London is going to cope, I hope, very well with the Games. I think the Jubilee proved we can do it."
Boris said it would be a "summer like no other" but was forced to defend the ArcelorMittal Orbit tower to Today Show host Matt Lauer.
"What is this crazy tower?" Lauer asked.
Boris said that while it was perhaps the "largest and most preposterous ever representation ever of a shisha pipe" every Olympic city needed a "vertical pillar of attraction ".
The mayor also took the time to explain what was so great about his book London, explaining that the city gave the world such great inventions such as the "flush toilet" and "liberal democracy".
He also was fortunate enough to meet Elmo, who is a regular on the programme.
