Coach Carrying 40 Schoolchildren Crashes After Alton Towers Trip

A coach ferrying 40 schoolchildren back from a trip to Alton Towers theme park has crashed in Staffordshire, resulting in the driver being arrested.

It is believed the vehicle collided with a Renault Clio and Jeep Cherokee at about 8pm on Tuesday on the A500 road near Audley.

The 24-year-old driver of the Clio was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries but has since been discharged, the BBC reported.

The children, from Bannerman High School in Baillieston, were taken home by a replacement coach.

A spokesperson for Glasgow City Council said: "The police and an ambulance attended and thankfully they only had to treat a couple of young people for very minor injuries.

"The police are now investigating the incident and all pupils and staff have arrived safely back at school."

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire police said the driver had been bailed pending further inquiries and had not yet been charged.

No-one involved in the crash was seriously hurt.
