Twilight Fan Killed At Comic-Con

San Diego's annual Comic-Con celebration kicked off on a sombre note on Tuesday when a Twilight fan was killed outside the city's Convention Center.

The 53-year-old, identified as Gisela G, was crossing a road to get in line for Thursday's Breaking Dawn - Part 2 panel discussion when she was hit by a car.

She died from her injuries, according to local reports, which indicate the tragic fan was unconscious and "bleeding profusely" when paramedics raced her a nearby hospital.

Twilight fans who witnessed the tragedy have flooded Gisela's Twitter.com with notes of condolence.

Comic-Con 2012, the world's largest convention of comic book and sci-fi and fantasy fans, officially opens on Thursday.
