'The Dark Knight Rises' Star Joseph Gordon-Levitt Slams GQ For Claiming His Brother Died Of An 'Alleged Drug Overdose'

'Dark Knight Rises' Star Slams GQ's 'Irresponsible Claim'

Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has taken aim at GQ magazine editors for speculating about the cause of his elder brother's 2010 death in a new interview.

The Inception star recently sat down with writer Amy Wallace for the publication's August cover story, in which he discusses his early career, his role in the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, and the production company he started with his brother Dan.

It is not known exactly how his brother, a photographer and fire-spinning artist known as Burning Dan, died, although at the time reports suggested he suffered a drug overdose. The GQ journalist makes reference to the unfounded rumours in the interview, writing, "The elder Gordon-Levitt died of an alleged drug overdose in 2010. 'It was an accident' is all Joe will say about that."

The article has angered the actor and he has taken to his Tumblr.com blog to voice his dissatisfaction with the piece.

In the online missive, Gordon-Levitt takes aim at GQ editors for using the word "alleged" to describe Dan's cause of death and he's not happy that that's all they chose to include about his brother.

He writes, "I'm writing this because I have a problem with what their article says about my brother. I'll be honest, it really made me feel terrible... The 'allegations' to which she (Wallace) must be referring were made by a handful of gossip websites. They are factually incorrect according to the coroner's office and the police department. I don't like publicly speaking about my brother's death, but I'm making an exception to correct this irresponsible claim.

"By the way, while I asked the writer not to dwell on how he died, I did say quite a bit about how he lived, and how much he means to me. Dan was a brightly positive, genuinely caring, and brilliantly inspiring person, and I liked the idea of such a wide readership learning about him. My parents and I are disappointed with what the article chose to focus on regarding this sensitive subject."
