Luka Modric To Be Fined By Tottenham Hotspur After Refusal To Train (VIDEO)

VIDEO: Modric Fined By Spurs

Luka Modrić is set to be fined by Tottenham Hotspur for his refusal to train with the club.

The Croat is becoming increasingly frustrated at the delay to his protracted move to Spanish champions Real Madrid, but as he digs in his heels he is again faced with the Spurs hierarchy's hardline stance.

Modrić failed to report for training on Friday and his absence from the squad which flew out to Los Angeles on Saturday for the' pre-season tour has further angered new coach André Villas-Boas. Modrić will be fined a total of £80,000 - two weeks' wages - for his conduct.

Last year the silky Croatia international wanted to leave the Lilywhites to join Chelsea - then coached by Villas-Boas - but Spurs rejected several bids from the west London side.

Club chairman Daniel Levy, renowned for extracting inflated prices for squad members, is adamant the 26-year-old will not leave for less than £30m, with Tottenham reportedly eager to earn close to £40m from his sale.

Modrić's departure appeared to be inevitable after the club secured Gareth Bale on a new improved contract last month. The former Dinamo Zagreb star meanwhile signed a new contract until 2016 two years ago.

Villas-Boas' side will play friendlies against Los Angeles Galaxy, Liverpool and New York Red Bulls in the United States.
