The Football Association has clarified it will not complain about Gareth Bale playing for Tottenham Hotspur against LA Galaxy in a pre-season friendly when he was originally omitted from Stuart Pearce’s Team GB Olympic squad due to injury.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter said it was a “possibility” Bale could be banned if the national association made a complaint to football's governing body.
But the FA are not believed to be considering complaining about the issue, and had they have done so, that could have drawn the ire of the Football Association of Wales - who Bale represents.
Blatter said the ban would be for the “duration of the Olympics”, yet Tottenham only play pre-season friendlies during this period since the Games finish on 12 August, with the Premier League season commencing on 18 August.
Bale, 23, has been heavily criticised by members within the game, ranging from Gary Lineker to Robbie Savage, but said in the States his recovery was "well ahead of schedule".
Five Welshmen make up Pearce’s 18-man squad. Neil Taylor, Joe Allen, Aaron Ramsey, Craig Bellamy and captain Ryan Giggs are all expected to start today’s opener against Senegal.
