Mars Landing: Curiosity Rover Recreated With Lego (VIDEO)

Given the amazing difficulty of Nasa's successful mission to land a one-tonne rover on Mars, you might assume if they could have made it harder, they would have done. Just for fun.

So what about making the Curiosity rover out of Lego?

No, they didn't actually do it - but someone did.

Doug Moran and Will Gorman built a very good, small-scale replica of the car-sized vehicle now roaming around the surface of the red planet, out of building bricks.

The Lego Mindstorms Curiosity has four powered wheels, a working crane arm and is remote controlled - just like the real thing (if not quite from as far away).

And if you don't quite have the energy to make one yourself - don't worry. Mattel will be releasing a 1:64 scale model of the Curiosity under its Hot Wheels brand.

It's an impressive feat - take a look at the video above. All we need now is a Lego Sky Crane. Anyone?
