Parents Jailed For 'Vile' Racist Attacks On Daughter Jane Champion, 17, And Her Boyfriend

Parents Jailed For Racist Attacks

Parents David and Frances Champion have been jailed for beating their 17-year-old daughter Jane and her boyfriend Aflonce Ncube in two racist attacks.

The incidents, described as "disgraceful" and "vile" by the Judge, took place after the parents accused their daughter of bringing "shame on the family" for having a black boyfriend.

The first attack happened in the family home in Swansea after Mr and Mrs Champion returned to find the young couple in a "state of undress", the court heard.

Mr Champion reportedly grabbed his daughter's throat and kicked Mr Ncube's legs before throwing him out. Throughout the attack he was alleged to shout a string of racially abusive insults.

The second attack took place in a pub a month later. Jane was confronted by her parents about the relationship, when she confirmed that her and Mr Ncube were together her father punched her in the face.

Her mother was overheard shouting: "You deserve it. This is all your fault."

Mr and Mrs Champion then visited the restaurant where their daughter's boyfriend worked. Mr Ncube hid until the couple left the premises.

Speaking to the court Judge Peter Heywood said: "We live in a liberal and enlightened society and these sorts of racist behaviour cannot be tolerated. The way you reacted was totally inappropriate."

Mr Champion has been jailed for 12 months, while mother Frances Champion has received a nine month sentence.
