Edinburgh Fringe Comedy: 10 Questions With Fliss Russell

'It's A Mix Of Silly Characters - A Pirate, Time Traveller And My Welsh Cousin'

Fliss Russell brings her debut character comedy show to the Edinburgh Fringe this month. And to get us in the mood, she's answered our 10 Quick Questions...

Pitch your Edinburgh show in 25 words or less.

Life is Fliss is my debut solo show. It's a mix of silly characters (a pirate, a time traveller and my Welsh cousin) and me. Ooh, fun!

Your best Edinburgh moment?

Every year when I arrive at Waverley station and smell the weird, meaty smell that is Edinburgh - that's always a brilliant moment.

And your worst?

When doing a run of shows at 10am every day, I got into the habit of taking long afternoon naps - for obvious reasons. During one of these naps, I was rudely awoken by a fellow cast member saying the fire brigade were on their way due to a gas leak. I assumed it was a lie and went back to sleep, but - sure enough - they arrived and we were turfed out of the flat. I managed to stagger to the nearest coffee shop and fall back to sleep. I hated that day. I was too tired even to talk to firemen. Rubbish.

You've got one hour free in Edinburgh - what do you do?

Get a coffee and relax at The Meadows. No, have a beer at the Pleasance Courtyard. No, get a burger from the place at the Gilded Balloon. No, see if I can meet up with the friend I've managed to miss all month. Or actually, most likely realise the hour's gone and I'm running late for the next show I've got tickets for.

Which Edinburgh landmark/venue/place would you give a five star review to?

The Baked Potato Shop at the top of Cockburn Street. When you're starving, you can't beat one of their potatoes to fill you up.

Give us a secret Edinburgh tip!

No matter how many Tattie Dogs you eat in Edinburgh during the festival, you'll never put on any weight. Honestly. It's true. But it's a secret. Sssh - don't tell anyone.

Deep-fried haggis or deep-fried Mars bar?

Mars bar.

Kilt or trousers?

Kilt. When in Scotland...

Arthur's Seat or Arthur Smith?

Seat! This year, I'm determined to climb to the top.

Complete this sentence: “In Edinburgh, I will be mainly...

...happy to be there."
