Edinburgh Fringe Comedy: 10 Questions With Garrett Millerick

'I Once Punched A Fellow Performer Square In The Face'

Comedian Garrett Millerick is back at the Edinburgh Fringe with a new show entitled Sensible Answers To Stupid Questions. Talking of which, he's just provided us with some (largely sensible but occasionally stupid) answers to our 10 Quick Questions...

Pitch your Edinburgh show in 25 words or less.

Hilariously misguided late-night philosophy, jokes and stories about love, life and the pursuit of happiness.

Your best Edinburgh moment?

A few years ago, I was walking home quite late with a friend and something began shouting at us, in a thick, drunken and seemingly aggressive drawl. This made us a bit nervous, but we turned round anyway and the drunk exclaimed: "YOUR PLAY WAS F***ING GREAT, BY TH' WAY!" Then he fell over and spilt his kebab. So what we'd thought was going to be a mugging or a beating was in fact just a nice review.

And your worst?

In 2009, I messed up a stage punch in a sketch show and accidentally punched a fellow performer square in the face. He was very badly hurt and the show kind of fell apart from that moment. Amusingly enough, some of the audience didn't realise it wasn't part of the show. The tech guy overheard people saying, "It was alright, but the ending was just weird", as they left.

You've got one hour free in Edinburgh - what do you do?

Probably go and have a lie down.

Which Edinburgh landmark/venue/place would you give a five star review to?

The Brass Monkey. It's my favourite pub in Edinburgh. It has a fantastic atmosphere. The staff are always very friendly. And it has a bed in it. A giant bed that you can go and lie on while you watch films. Bloody excellent!

If you book your accommodation in January, it will be cheaper.

Deep-fried haggis or deep-fried Mars bar?

I tried a deep-fried Mars bar once. The first bite was one of the most amazing taste sensations I'd ever experienced. By the time I got to bite three, I was certain I was going to develop type 2 diabetes, so I threw it away. Deep-fried haggis is one of the joys of Edinburgh.

Kilt or trousers?

Trousers. If you're not Scottish, you can't really wear a kilt. I think it's illegal.

Arthur's Seat or Arthur Smith?

Arthur's Seat.
