Gamescom 2012: Sony Boosts PS Vita Lineup With Killzone, Tearaway

Sony Boosts PS Vita Lineup With Killzone, Tearaway

Sony has used its Gamescom press conference to give a much-needed boost to its Vita handheld.

New titles coming to the device, which has won good reviews but seen just "acceptable" sales according to Sony, include the long-awaited debut of Killzone.

Footage showed at the annual games conference in Cologne featured gesture controls, an 'assassin-based' form of gameplay and high-quality graphics.

Sony also used the press conference to highlight 'Tearaway', the first all-new game from the makers of Little Big Planet since that title was released - and went on to sell 8 million copies.

The game is a 3D platformer with a 'paper' aesthetic, and allows players to 'push through' the game world using their fingers on the PS Vita's screen.

It also showed 'Cross Control', a new way for PS Vita owners to use the handheld as a secondary controller for games like Little Big Planet 2. The feature appears to replicate many of the key selling points of Nintendo's Wii U console, due this winter.

Sony also used the conference to announce new titles coming to Playstation Mobile, a cross-platform gaming app store which will work with mobile phones, tablets and the PS Vita.

The classic puzzle game Lemmings is one of the titles coming to the Playstation Mobile store.

Among the other announcements at the show were new titles for the Playstation 3, including 'Until Dawn' - a horror movie combined with a Playstation Move video game.
