Geri Halliwell: 'Spice Girls' Olympic Performance Was For My Dad'

Geri Reveals 'Poignant' Olympic Secret

Geri Halliwell may have turned 40 recently, but she's still got it.

Fresh from her performance with the Spice Girls at the Olympic Closing Ceremony, she has stripped down to her bikini for a shoot in Hello magazine, where she revealed the "poignant" secret that made her want to get back with her bandmates.

Geri told of how the performance was particularly emotional because it was held on her late father's birthday.

"Sadly he died six months before the Spice Girls, when I was 21. So doing the Olympics on his birthday was so sweet and poignant for me," she said.

"It was a wake-up call, dealing with that pain and loss, then turning it into drive."

Geri also revealed how the two Mels, Emma and Victoria helped to celebrate her landmark birthday as the rehearsed for the comeback performance.

She said: "The girls were very sweet and made me feel special. There was a cake, lovely presents - an elegant, pretty necklace - and singing of course.

"No matter what's happened in the past, we love and accept each other.

"I always laugh most when I'm around them."

And it appears there could be a new romance on the horizon for Ginger Spice as she hinted that she has her eye on a new man.

"I'm not going into details," she said. "Right now there's nothing serious. I was a late starter on the romantic front. I didn't start dating until I was in my 30s.

"I quite like having somebody to cuddle. I like that intimacy, it would be wonderful."

The full interview appears in this week's Hello magazine, out now.
