Wolves Sell British Duo Steven Fletcher And Matt Jarvis For £22m

Wolves Sell Fletcher And Jarvis For £22m, But Are They Worth It?

Wolverhampton Wanderers have sold Matt Jarvis and Steven Fletcher to West Ham United and Sunderland respectively, earning £22m from the transfers.

Jarvis has joined the Hammers on a five-year contract whilst Fletcher has moved north to Wearside on a four-year deal as both players return to Premier League football.

The former team-mates, sold on Friday, are two more examples of British footballers moving clubs for an inflated fee in the 21st century.

Fletcher and Jarvis during their two seasons together with Wolves

Capped just once by England in a friendly against Ghana, Jarvis was with Wolves for five years having started his career at Kent club Gillingham.

Scot Fletcher meanwhile is now with his third Premier League club, having come south of the boarder to join Burnley for their one season in English football's top flight in 2009 before defecting to the Black Country after the Clarets' relegation.

Like most modern football transfers, the price tags for the duo have not been disclosed, although Jarvis is believed to have cost £10m with Fletcher setting Sunderland back £12m, and possibly rising to £14m.

Although the cost of their moves has raised eyebrows, they are relatively modest in comparison to the dearest transfers of British footballers...
