Joey Barton Says Move To Marseille 'Isn't Gonna Happen'

Barton Says Marseille Move Is Off

Joey Barton's miserable summer looks set to continue after the Queens Park Rangers midfielder took to Twitter to reveal it is unlikely he will join French club Marseille.

Barton, 30 on Sunday, was linked with a move to L'OM nearly two weeks ago after QPR did not issue him with a squad number for the current season.

The former Newcastle United man is two games into a 12-match ban for his conduct during the Rs' final game of the 2011/12 campaign at Manchester City, when he was sent off for lashing out at Carlos Tévez and then kicked Sergio Agüero as he departed the field of play.

Barton was stripped of the captaincy as a result of his conduct but in June was arrested on suspicion of affray while on a night out with his girlfriend in Liverpool city centre.

He has regularly informed Twitter users of his situation at QPR, who are eager to release him from his contract at Loftus Road.

Manager Mark Hughes, who sent Barton to train at League Two newcomers Fleetwood Town during pre-season, has been accused by his former captain of deeming him not "capable of playing this year" on the social networking site.
