Tottenham Hotspur To Spend Luka Modric Money On Hugo Lloris? (TRANSFER TALK)

Spurs To Splash Modric Money On Lloris?

Farewell Luka Modrić, hello Hugo Lloris? Tottenham Hotspur's loss may also be their gain as Daniel Levy prepares to unlock the war chest for André Villas-Boas ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

The Times report goalkeeper Lloris, as well as flavour-of-the-month Moussa Dembélé of Fulham and Shakhtar Donestk striker Willian are the Lilywhites' three targets.

Spurs' spine has needed addressing all summer, so although the complacency of the club has riled some supporters they do now seem set to strengthen the heart of the team, albeit belatedly. Dembélé, linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United, has emerged as Fulham's crown jewel now Clint Dempsey has exercised the nuclear option to demolish bridges with the club, but is 'getable'.

Villas-Boas has monitored his former FC Porto midfielder João Moutinho too but Dembélé would be considerably cheaper. The Guardian meanwhile report a fee for Lloris has been agreed whereas Willian may be a trickier purchase as Shakhtar aim to give Levy a dosage of his own extortionate medicine.

Spurs have also bid £12m for Yann M'Vila too according to the French midfielder's club Rennes, although they want £15m for the France international.

Another team likely to be busy this week is Liverpool. Will the Kenny Dalglish relics be sold? Who will come in? Well the Mirror suggest Daniel Sturridge is a target, but Brendan Rodgers will have to flog the odd misfit (Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing) to bring in the Chelsea forward.

Sturridge, 22, seems destined to be on the fringes of the Blues squad this season after Marko Marin, Oscar and Eden Hazard arrived at the club - all players cut from a similar fabric to the former Manchester City trainee.

Talking City, and Roberto Mancini's been a bit like Veruca Salt this past month. He's wanted Daniele de Rossi, Javier Martínez and Daniel Agger, but has ended up with Jack Rodwell. However Italy's Gazetta dello Sport write that the Premier League champions are closing in on Fiorentina's 19-year-old Serbian defender Matija Nastasic for £21m. Even better news for City is the error-prone Montenegro defender Stefan Savic will head in the opposite direction.

So desperate is Mancini for a new man he may turn to Benfica's £25m-rated Javi García, suggest the Mirror.

Fulham, likely to see a couple of players depart west London, want to sign Sunderland winger Kieran Richardson although Queens Park Rangers and Reading are also interested, allege the Sun.

Rob Green can't help but convince QPR he will not suffice for the season. Having decided to ignore goalkeeping rules and handle outside the penalty area on Saturday against Norwich City, the Rs are now set to finally complete the signing of Júlio César from Internazionale, report the Mail.

And Southampton still want Gastón Ramírez, claim the Mirror. Already willing to pay the £11m to bring him to St Mary's, they are now willing to offer the Bologna attacker £45,000 a week apparently.
