Man Taken To Hospital With Serious Burns

A man was taken to hospital with serious burns after a fire broke out in a caravan.

The M23 motorway was closed at junction nine earlier this morning after the blaze on land off Perrylands Lane in Smallfield, near Horley.

Surrey Police and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service set up a 500m cordon around the fire, which broke out in the caravan and an outbuilding at 12.50am.

A 30-year-old man who was inside the caravan suffered burn injuries and was taken to East Surrey Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

A 36-year-old man was also found nearby, but was not believed to have sustained any injuries.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, and investigators remain at the scene.

The motorway was reopened at 1.40am.
