Paralympic Games: Duchess Kate Gets In The Spirit Watching Rowers (PICTURES)

Duchess Kate Gets Into The Paralympics Spirit

The Duchess of Cambridge braved the rain on Sunday morning as she witnessed a golden moment for ParalympicsGB rowers.

Dressed casually in a Games branded athletic jacket, navy blue skinny jeans and red trainers, she saw a mixed day at Eton Dorney, Berkshire. Kate clutched a black umbrella as she entered the venue accompanied by a number of Paralympic Games volunteers.

She looked on nervously holding her hand to her mouth as she cheered on Great Britain's LTA mixed coxed fours - and later made a guest appearance in the Olympic stadium to present a gold medal to proud discus hero Davies.

The Welshman was overcome with emotion and beamed with pride as Kate hung the medal around his neck before singing the national anthem.

The British team beat chief rivals Germany in a thrilling sprint for the line to win Paralympic gold.

The Duchess, who was joined by the Countess of Wessex and eight-year-old Lady Louise Windsor, could hardly contain her excitement as she celebrated the medal win punching the air with her fist and clapping her hands above her head.

The rowing team, including David Smith, James Roe, Naomi Riches, Pam Relph and cox Lily van den Broecke, added the Paralympic crown to the world title they won last year.

Their success brought a victorious conclusion on an otherwise underwhelming morning for the host nation.

There was disappointment for ex-serviceman Nick Beighton and Samantha Scowen as they missed out on third spot in the mixed adaptive rowing sculls final. The pair fought hard but missed out on a medal by just two hundredths of a second as the Duchess of Cambridge watched on in the rain.

Taking William's young cousin under her wing, Kate could be seen chatting with Sophie's daughter - one of her flower girls on the day of her wedding - pointing out the rowers and making sure the youngest member of the group was not left out.

A keen sportswoman herself, the Duchess was clearly enjoying herself as she laughed and joked during the events.

It is not the first time that Kate has accompanied Lady Louise to the Games, they spent time together at the velodrome on the first day too.

The Duchess, one of the Royal ambassadors of the Paralympics, also spoke with Lord Coe who she watched a number of sports with during the London 2012 Games.
