Rockers Muse have hit back at allegations they stole the idea for their 2009 album The Resistance from a sci-fi fan who approached them about a concept for a space-age rock opera four years before the release.
Charles Bolfrass has filed a copyright lawsuit against the group and executives at record label Warner Music over claims three tracks on the band's album were ripped from his idea.
Bolfrass claims he contacted the group in 2005 and introduced the idea of a concept album about space travel, but the trio rejected his plans months later.
The band and its record label handlers are planning to challenge the suit, stating, "The claim is complete nonsense, and is categorically denied.
"It appears to be based on a 'screenplay' which the band never received or saw, produced by someone the band has never heard of. It speaks volumes that the album in question was released a full three years ago, and yet this is the first that has been heard of these groundless allegations."
A spokesman for Warner Music tells WENN. "We will aggressively defend this lawsuit, and the band is exploring what remedies may be available to them... in relation to these untrue and baseless allegations."
