Ignorance Of First Aid 'Kills As Many People As Cancer'

Viewers of ITV1’s Downton Abbey will experience hard-hitting drama in the advert break on Sunday as they watch a cancer survivor choke to death in a stirring new charity campaign.

The advert for St John Ambulance, which is raising awareness about learning first aid, will show the how the family of the cancer survivor who has recently returned from hospital are forced to stand by helplessly.

It also comes in the wake of figures that show that ignorance of basic first aid is as big a killer as cancer.

The charity is urging everyone to get a pocket-sized guide with first aid skills that can help save lives by texting HELP to 80039.

The five common scenarios depicted in the free first aid guide are: choking, heart attack, severe bleeding, an unconscious person who is breathing and one who is not breathing.

The most basic first aid knowledge can help save a life
