Google Hits Social Network Milestone (Celebrates By Buying Snapseed)

Google has announced it now has more than 100 million active users of its social network - and to celebrate it's buying a company.

He added (via Google+, of course):

"This week we also hit an important milestone--over 400,000,000 people have upgraded to Google+. It was only a year ago that we opened public sign-up, and we couldn't have imagined that so many people would join in just 12 months.

While Google+ is all about creating a better experience across Google, it's also a destination. And here too, I'm happy to report that we have just crossed 100,000,000 monthly active users on Google+"

Gundotra also said that Google was purchasing the imaging company Nik Software, responsible for the successful iOS and OS X image editor Snapseed.

Nik said that after 17 years of independence they were proud to become part of the search giant.

"We are pleased to announce that Google has acquired Nik Software. For nearly 17 years, we've been guided by our motto, "photography first", as we worked to build world class digital image editing tools. We've always aspired to share our passion for photography with everyone, and with Google's support we hope to be able to help many millions more people create awesome pictures."

The terms of the deal have not yet been made public.
