Mark Duggan Case: Jury Sworn In For Trial Of Man Accused Of Passing Him A Gun

Jury Sworn In For Mark Duggan 'Gun Case'

A jury has been chosen and sworn in the trial of a man accused of passing a gun to Mark Duggan, whose fatal shooting by police last year sparked the August riots.

Kevin Hutchinson-Foster, 30, denies "selling or transferring a prohibited firearm" to Mr Duggan between July 28 and August 5 last year.

A trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court is set to open tomorrow morning and is due to last around three weeks.

The shooting of 29-year-old Mr Duggan by police in Tottenham, north London, on August 4, 2011, sparked disorder across the capital and the rest of the country.

Hutchinson-Foster, of no fixed abode, is charged with passing a gun to Mr Duggan, contrary to the Firearms Act 1968 - a charge he has pleaded not guilty to.

It is alleged that the 30-year-old "without the authority of the Secretary of State, sold or transferred a firearm to Mark Duggan, namely a BBM Bruni Model 92 handgun which had a barrel less than 30cm in length".

A jury of eight men and four women was sworn in today.

They were read the charge and Judge David Radford outlined the rules of the court then sent them home until 10.15am tomorrow when the prosecution is due to open its case.
