Jimi Hendrix Remembered: The Guitar Legend In Pictures

Today marks the 42nd year since the death of Jimi Hendrix.

Aged 27 when he died, Hendrix hence became a member of the infamous "Forever 27 Club" - a group comprised of influential musicians, all of whom died at the same age.

Jimi Hendrix died in London on September 18, 1970

Some of the other notable members include Rolling Stone Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and most recently, Amy Winehouse. Most of these deaths occurred under mysterious circumstances.

Seattle-born Hendrix, who rose to fame with his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience, died after collapsing at a party in London.

Outkast star Andre 3000 stars as Hendrix in the upcoming rock biopic All Is By My Side, set for release in 2013.

The John Ridley film will focus on the period the guitarist recorded his 1967 album Are You Experienced? a work that is widely considered one of the greatest rock albums ever made.

It will trace his beginnings after he was discovered in a New York club, to his eventual meeting with Chas Chandler, who launched his career.

Several previous biopics have been abandoned, including a proposal by Paul Greengrass, which was shelved after Hendrix’s estate refused to license the late musician’s songs, The Guardian reported.
