M20 In Chaos After Four Lorry Pile-Up Causes 'Serious Damage' To Highway

M20 In Chaos After Pile-Up

A pile-up on a motorway will mean traffic chaos for most of Thursday after police closed a section of the M20 in Kent.

Emergency services were called just after midnight on Wednesday to a collision involving at least four lorries on the coast-bound carriageway near junction nine.

Two lorry drivers were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The other two drivers were uninjured in the incident

A Kent Police spokesman said: "The carriageway is likely to remain closed until around 6pm tonight as two of the lorries need to be unloaded before they can be recovered, with the other two lorries and a significant diesel spillage (this) has caused serious damage to the carriageway."

Traffic police and Highways Agency officers are in the area assisting with the traffic flow.

Vehicles are being diverted off the M20 at junction 9 and directed through Ashford on the A20, to rejoin the motorway at junction 10.
