Mars has a new mayor.
(On Foursquare).
The $2.5bn Curiosity rover took a break from hunting for life on the Red Planet's surface on Wednesday, by 'checking in' using the mobile social network.
This is the first time anyone has 'checked in' from another planet.
Users on Foursquare are now able to follow Curiosity's movements as it 'checks in' at various locations on Mars.
The rover's account will host pictures, tips and status updates straight from the Gale Crater.
"NASA is using Foursquare as a tool to share the rover's new locations while exploring Mars," said David Weaver, associate administrator for communications at NASA HQ in Washington.
"This will help to involve the public with the mission and give them a sense of the rover's travels through Gale Crater."
The rover is currently on a two-year mission to search for signs of life on the planet. It is currently moving towards Mount Sharp, which is a mountain about three miles from its landing site.
