Carmageddon Re-Released For iPhone (PHOTOS)

The spectacularly violent (and beloved) driving game Carmageddon has been re-released for the iPhone and iPad.

Once dubbed the 'nastiest driving game in the world' by the Daily Mail, the game involved scoring points by running down pedestrians in a variety of beweaponed cars.

Carmageddon was banned for 10 months when originally released in the UK, after the BBFC refused to certify it.

But the game was eventually released and despite mixed reviews it went on to be considered a classic of the genre, and an influence of 3D driving games like Grand Theft Auto and Driver.

A full remake of the game (' Carmageddon: Reincarnation') is currently being developed after its original makers (Stainless Games) bought back the rights and launched a project on crowd-source funding website Kickstarter.

More than 15,000 people pledged $625,000 for the remake.

As a thank you to fans who supported the campaign, the original game is free for 24 hours on the iOS App Store.

It also comes with save syncing via iCloud, a YouTube replay export feature and lots of options to customise controls.
