Norah Jones Attends Father Ravi Shankar's Memorial

Norah Jones and George Harrison's widow were among the hundreds of mourners to attend a memorial in honour of late musician Ravi Shankar in California on Thursday.

The legendary sitar player passed away at the age of 92 following complications from heart surgery earlier this month, and a public memorial was held in his adopted Encinitas, San Diego.

Hordes of fans descended on the Self-Realization Fellowship headquarters to remember the star, including his famous daughters Jones and Anoushka Shankar.

The late musician had enjoyed a close friendship with Harrison following his collaboration with the Beatles in the 1960s, and his widow Olivia addressed the crowd to share her memories of Shankar.

Holding back tears she said, "He completely transformed (George's) musical sensibilities. They exchanged ideas and melodies until their hearts and minds were intertwined like a double helix."

Shankar's son-in-law, Atonement director Joe Wright, who is married to Anoushka, and pianist Herbie Hancock, also paid their respects at the service.
