YouTube App To Launch On Freesat

The free-to-air, ITV and BBC-backed satellite service Freesat has announced it will launch a YouTube service.

Access to YouTube will be available from March through Freesat's £279 internet-enabled set-top box ('Freetime').

Users will navigate the site with their smartphone.

Tte service added in a press release that it had now sold three million boxes, and claimed more new households in the third quarter of 2012 than Sky and BT Vision combined (55,000).

YouTube is already available on UK TVs via a wide array of devices, including the Apple TV, Xbox and PS3. But Freesat said the move would make YouTube viewable to a wider audience than ever.
