Dennis Bergkamp Statue To Be Erected At Arsenal's Emirates Stadium

Arsenal To Erect Bergkamp Statue

Dennis Bergkamp is set to become the fourth Arsenal legend to be immortalise in the form of a statue outside the Emirates Stadium, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claim the statue will be unveiled this summer, seven years on from the Dutchman's final Arsenal appearance.

A picture of the virtuoso Bergkamp at St James's Park in 2003 is supposedly the inspiration for the latest statue outside the Gunners' ground.

The statue will reportedly be based on this picture of Bergkamp at Newcastle in 2002

Former captains Tony Adams and Thierry Henry already boast their own tributes, while Herbert Chapman, the Yorkshireman who managed the club to their first two league championships and FA Cup triumph in the 1930s, is also remembered.

Signed from Internazionale in 1995 for £7.5m, Bergkamp went on to become one of Arsenal's greatest players and was instrumental in the worldwide popularity of the Premiership's early years.

Named after Manchester United icon Denis Law (albeit with an extra 'n'), Bergkamp was part of Arsenal's two double winning squads in 1997-98 and 2001-02, as well as the 2003-04 Invincibles. Overall, he scored 120 goals in 423 matches, winning three Premier League and four FA Cup winners' medals.

Now assistant manager to Ajax coach Frank de Boer, Bergkamp's testimonial in 2006 was the first game to be played at the Emirates Stadium.

Adams' statue pose recalls his celebration after hitting Arsenal's fourth in their 4-0 demolition of Everton in 1998 - the day the club won their first league title in seven years.

Theirry Henry's statue was unveiled in 2011

Henry's meanwhile is inspired by his reaction following a rasping strike past Manchester City's David James at Highbury in 2004.
