Luis Suárez Appears To Punch Gonzalo Jara In Uruguay's Defeat To Chile (VIDEO)

Retrospective Action?

Luis Suárez has risked an international suspension after the he appeared to punch Chile's Gonzalo Jara during Uruguay's 2-0 World Cup qualifying defeat.

Frustrated by Jara clutching him during a corner, Suárez took leave of his senses again as he seemed to aim a subtle jab into his opponent's face.

It is the second time in just over a month Suárez has been involved in an off-the-ball incident which wasn't spotted by officials. The Liverpool forward's stamp on Zenit St. Petersburg defender Tomáš Hubočan in the Europa League was surprisingly not punished.

Suárez fired a blank in Uruguay's defeat in Chile

Suárez was later yellow-carded in the game to add to Uruguay's misery. The Copa América holders are now in danger of failing to qualify for next year's World Cup in Brazil after the loss in Chile saw them slide down to sixth in the Conmebol table.

Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia and Chile hold the automatic qualifying berths, with Venezeula occupying the play-off spot.

Failure to qualify will be all the more ignominious given Brazil's absence from qualifying due to their host nation duties. Uruguay ended the 2010 World Cup with a fourth-place finish, with Diego Forlán named player of the tournament.
