Jimmy Savile Scandal: Man, 65, Arrested In Sex Abuse Probe

Police Make Another Arrest In Savile Abuse Probe

A 65-year-old man has been arrested by detectives investigating allegations that emerged after the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.

The man was held in Somerset on Thursday morning on suspicion of sexual offences, Scotland Yard said.

Allegations against him are not linked to Savile, the force confirmed.

The man is the 12th person to be arrested under Operation Yewtree, the national investigation prompted by allegations against the disgraced television presenter.

On Wednesday, another of the men arrested under Yewtree was charged with five offences.

Driver David Smith is accused of two counts of indecent assault, two of gross indecency and one of buggery in 1984, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

He is the first person to be charged as part of the investigation.

Smith, 66, from Lewisham in south east London, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 8 May.

All of the counts relate to one alleged victim.
