Student Musician Of The Week: Exeter University's Electro House Band We Are Woken

Meet We are Woken, an Electro House production/band from the University of Exeter, made up of law student Tudor Davies (Production/Vocals) and business student John Kilpatrick (Production/ Guitar).

John chatted to us about the band's hopes, dreams and achievements.

How long have you been playing?

We have been together for a year, but released our debut track only a month ago.

What genre of music do you play?

Primarily Electro House, although we include a lot of guitar. We generally stick loosely to one tempo although try to approach each song differently to make each one as emotive as possible.

Why did you start playing?

We have been in a band together before, and decided to produce together so we could have complete control over our sound and get things exactly how we want them to be.

What’s your most memorable musical moment?

As boring as it might sound, our best 'musical moments' are probably when either one of us comes up with an insanely memorable hook. We get very excited by these things.

What’s your dream?

Our dream is for our music and lyrics to be recognised

Who’s your idol and who would you most compare yourself to? (Dead or alive...)

We would love to be compared to Chase and Status, especially their later work, combining guitars seamlessly with electronic music.

If you could play with anyone, who would it be?

Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan in a club would be unique.

If you could play at any festival, which would it be?

Playing at Reading Festival would be incredible. I go every year, so to be invited to play would be amazing.

Who are your fans?

Our fans are predominantly based in Exeter.

What’s your all time favourite song?

I don't know if we have a favourite song in particular, but when it comes to influences, we love the production of Seven Lions, DeadMau5 and Madeon to name a few.
