Arsenal will smash their transfer record with the signing of Gonzalo Higuaín for £22 million from Real Madrid.
The Argentinian has inked a four-year, £140,000 a week deal with the Gunners and will become their most expensive signing after Andrei Arshavin's £15m arrival in January 2009.
Higuaín scored 16 goals last season and 22 league goals in the previous campaign when he helped Real Madrid to their first La Liga title in four years.
But he was constantly rotated with the mercurial Karim Benzema and effectively regarded as the club's second-choice striker.

The 25-year-old joined Madrid from River Plate in 2007 under former president Ramon Calderón's reign, but excelled in the Florentino Pérez era despite the politics which often dash players' careers at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Although Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud joined last summer, Arsenal lack an outstanding striker.
Podolski and Giroud hit 16 and 17 goals apiece but seem set for squad roles as the club bid to end a nine-year trophy drought.
Theo Walcott performed well as a striker last season however his form coincidentally dipped shortly after he signed a new contract with the club.
The England international has stated his preference to play through the middle rather than on the wing, yet Arsène Wenger is likely to ignored his pleas.
Wenger is armed with a £70m budget this summer and, with Denilson, Sebastian Squillaci and Arshavin departing on frees, he has plenty of funds to strengthen other areas of the squad.
Arsenal supporters are keen for the club to recruit a goalkeeper and defensive midfielder.
