Student Musician Of The Week: SAE Institute's Jordan O'Shea

Meet Our Student Musician Of The Week Jordan O'Shea

This week's student musician is 21-year-old Jordan O'Shea, who studies sound and audio engineering at the SAE Institute, one of the world's largest media education providers.

How long have you been playing?

I have been playing guitar for about 6 years now, and only properly been singing for about 2 years.

What genre of music do you play?

I play quite melancholy alternative music, mostly acoustic. Live I'm much more 'stripped down' as they say.

Why did you start playing?

I've been writing poetry since I was a kid, and growing up you unfortunately realise it's not as cool as being a musician or a footballer. I realised I could turn them into songs and get myself heard a bit more! I loved being in bands and performing to people, nothing really matches that feeling.

What’s your most memorable musical moment?

Releasing my album this year was pretty cool. I recorded, mixed, funded, released, and obviously wrote, the album completely by myself and so for it to be getting the response it's been receiving is incredibly rewarding.

What’s your dream?

That my only job will be to make and produce music.

Who’s your idol and who would you most compare yourself to? (Dead or alive...)

I don't really have any idols to be honest, except for my parents I suppose. Authors and Directors seem to inspire me more than other musicians! I'd like to be a musical Jack Kerouac

If you could play with anyone, who would it be?

Oh wow, probably City and Colour or Bon Iver. They really do own the genre.

If you could play at any festival, which would it be?

Glastonbury or Wilderness! I love the feel they have, I'm a hippy at heart.

Who are your fans?

My Mum. My Dad. I think that's everyone...

What’s your all time favourite song?

This constantly changes but either 'Boy With a Coin' by Iron and Wine, or 'Colors' by Portugal. The Man.
