British And Irish Lions Suffer Melbourne Defeat To Australia

The British and Irish Lions suffered defeat at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday morning, losing the second test against the Wallabies by 15-16.

Australia’s victory takes the series into a deciding fixture in Sydney in seven days time, after a close match in which the Northern Hemisphere side showed remarkable defence.

Adam Ashley-Cooper scored the game’s only try late in the second half, which was bravely converted by Christian Leali'ifano's to ensure an Australian win despite a terrific performance from Lions kicker Lee Halfpenny. The lions led for much of the match until Ashley-Cooper's 76-minute score, with Halfpenny scoring all of the Lions points.

The kicker had a chance to win the game and consequently the series for the Lions at the final whistle, but his kick from the halfway line proved short, leaving the men in gold to celebrate.
