Gone are the days when all you had to take to the beach was your towel and your book - these days sunseekers take to their smartphones to 'check in' their location.
Facebook has published a list of the beaches in Britain which receive the most check-ins - but which sandy heaven came top of the list?

Most Popular 'Facebook' Beaches
With the heatwave set to continue over the weekend, a lot of holidaymakers are expected to flock to Britain's beaches.
Since the heatwave, Expedia revealed tour operators have seen UK beach bookings shoot up 119%, with Bournemouth at the top the list of UK escapes, compared with the same time last year. The Guardian reported that Eastbourne saw a 100% rise and Torquay in Devon received an 81% rise in bookings.
Just remember to be safe and pack the sunscreen!
