Man Held After Triple Stabbing In South London

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after one woman was killed and two seriously injured in a stabbing near Brixton, south London.

Police were called to an address in Redlands Way at 6.41pm, where a 46-year-old woman was found suffering from a number of injuries including stab wounds. She is in a critical condition at a south London hospital.

At 7.10pm officers were called to a home in nearby Tilson Gardens following reports that two females had been attacked.

A 28-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.31pm, while a 17-year-old girl was taken to a south London hospital suffering from stab wounds. She is in a serious but stable condition.

Scotland Yard said a 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The suspect was detained at 12.42am on Tuesday while he was travelling on a bus on Leigham Court Road, just over a mile from where the attacks took place.

He is in custody at a south London police station.

Detectives are not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation, and it is believed all three victims were known to him.

Detective Inspector Will Reynolds, the investigating officer from the Metropolitan Police's homicide and serious crime command, said: "Our investigation is at a very early stage. However, we are confident that there are no outstanding suspects.

"We believe that all three victims were known to the man who is currently in our custody. There is no suggestion that the victims were selected at random."

Chief Superintendent Matt Bell, borough commander for Lambeth, said: "We are working with the local community to ensure that they are updated with the information that we can share with them. Local officers are out on patrol in the borough and if local people are feeling concerned please come and talk to us."

London Ambulance Service attended both scenes, while London's air ambulance assisted at the property on Redlands Way.
