Morgan Tsvangirai Says Zimbabwe's Elections Are 'A Huge Farce' As Mugabe Claims Victory

'A Huge Farce'

Zimbabwe's elections have been branded a "huge farce" by the man looking like finishing in second place.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai dismissed the poll as "null and void" after President Robert Mugabe's ruling Zanu-PF claimed victory.

Tsvangirai said the elections had been "marred by administrative and legal violations which affect the legitimacy of its outcome."

Sources from the ruling party claimed to have "buried" the opposition Movement for Democratic Change.

But Tsvangirai said: "It's a sham election that does not reflect the will of the people."

Observers reported up to a million people being prevented from voting, although the elections were also described as 'free and fair'.

The official result of the election has not yet been confirmed, but Reuters quoted a senior Zanu-PF source saying: "We've taken this election. We've buried the MDC. We never had any doubt that we were going to win."
