Anthony Stokes, Celtic Striker, Arrested Over 'Elvis' Assault

Celtic striker Anthony Stokes has been released from police custody after being arrested over an alleged assault on an Elvis impersonator.

The footballer was questioned about an incident at a nightclub in Dublin on June 8, hours after an international between Ireland and the Faroe Islands in the Irish capital's Aviva stadium.

The 25-year-old Dubliner, who was back home again over the weekend for a friendly between Celtic and Liverpool, was quizzed by detectives at Irishtown Garda station.

Stokes joined Celtic in 2010

He was arrested this morning and was being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Stokes was released without charge this afternoon and it is understood a file is being prepared by investigators for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Elvis impersonator Anthony Bradley, 42, was treated for a suspected broken nose and chipped teeth following an incident at Buck Whaley's nightclub on Dublin's Leeson Street on June 8.

Stokes pulled out of a planned appearance on Saturday at the Celtic store in his home town where he was expected to meet fans and launch the Parkhead side's new away kit.

Teammates Mikael Lustig and Adam Matthews attended instead.
