Stewart Downing Joins West Ham As Liverpool's Dalglish Clearout Continues

A £14m Loss

Stewart Downing has completed his £6 million transfer from Liverpool to West Ham United, becoming the latest Kenny Dalglish signing to depart Anfield.

Downing, 29, has signed a four-year contract with Sam Allardyce's side after two seasons on Merseyside.

He will be reunited with Andy Carroll at Upton Park, a partnership Dalglish believed would propel Liverpool back into the Champions League.

West Ham are Downing's fourth club

Downing, represents a £14m loss for the Reds after he joined from Aston Villa two years ago.

Carroll, who made his loan move to the Hammers permanent earlier this summer in a £15m deal, cost Liverpool £35m in January 2011.

After Doni and Charlie Adam left the Reds last year, Brendan Rodgers has removed half of the dead wood he inherited from predecessor Dalglish.

José Enrique, Jordan Henderson, Sebastián Coates and wantaway striker Luis Suárez are the Dalglish buys remaining on L4 for now.

Suárez was warned he must apologise to Rodgers if he is to play for the club again, but the Uruguayan has no intention of showing contrition for his public display of "disrespect".

Coates's future after two years at the club appears to be in doubt after he made just 12 appearances last season and Henderson is unlikely to enjoy as much game-time as he did in 2012-13.

Only Enrique, one of the few success stories of Dalglish's second era, is guaranteed a first-team berth for Saturday's visit of Stoke.
