Lady Gaga will perform her new single 'Applause' for the first time as she opens the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
Gaga will kick off proceedings at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with a live performance of the first single from her forthcoming album, 'ARTPOP'.

Hopes are high for the she singer's appearance following two memorable performances at the awards show in previous years.
In 2009 she ended up covered in blood after a gory rendition of 'Paparazzi' and two years later delivered a gender-bending version of 'You And I' dressed as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone (watch the videos, below).

Other big names confirmed for the bash on Sunday 25 August include, Katy Perry - who will be performing her new single 'Roar', One Direction, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars and Kanye West.
The 2013 MTV Video Awards will be shown on MTV UK from 8pm on Monday August 26.
