'Makerbot Digitizer' 3D Scanner Goes On Sale

A desktop 3D scanner has gone on sale claiming to be able to copy and replicate small objects in minutes.

The Makerbot Digitizer costs about £900 ($1,400) and will be shipped to early adopters in October.

The machine takes roughly 12 minutes to scan objects with a variety of lasers - though performance varies depending on what you're scanning.

The designs are then uploaded to Thingiverse, where they can be shared and downloaded to print on 3D printers.

The BBC reports that the maker's site was overloaded on Thursday as people attempted to get online to buy the device.

"With a MakerBot Digitizer on your desk, you’ll be able to quickly turn the things in your world into 3D models that you can modify, improve, share, and 3D print," said the company.

Take a look at how it works, above.
