Warwick University Female Rowing Students Pose In Naked Calendar To Defy Critics (PICTURES)

'It's Spurred Us On'

A group of female student rowers who were branded "tacky" for posing semi-nude for a charity calendar have stripped totally naked for their latest edition, saying the criticism "spurred us on".

Last year feminist students were up in arms over the decision made by Warwick University's women's rowing club to strike various poses in their knickers. The women, who were raising money for Macmillan Cancer, insisted the naked calendar was "not about being part of some kind of watered down pornography".

This year, the rowers, numbering 17 in total, have decided to strip completely nude, telling The Huffington Post UK they have been "spurred on" by their critics.

Creators of the calendar Hettie Reed and Frankie Salzano, both 21, and Sophie Bell, 19, said the decision to make a 2014 edition was a result of the "hugely positive feedback from those who had or were suffering from cancer and had been greatly benefited by Macmillan cancer support".

"The charity has always been something that is close to our hearts and we want this year to exceed the amount we gave to Macmillan last year," they said. "These photos are artistic and done with taste. We decided that in order to create artistic and natural photos that we should show our bodies in their natural state. Also you can't call it a naked calendar without being naked."

The rowers said they had already had an "extremely positive reaction so far" and had sent more than 200 calendars overseas, with a long waiting list of customers eager to purchase the latest edition.

"The amount of positive feedback completely negates any negative comments we receive," they added. "Comments that we have experienced have not deterred us in our efforts to raise money for a very important charity, and if anything it's spurred us on."
