Boris Johnson seems to have unveiled a surprise pledge to spend £15 to bring empty homes back into use.
In his monthly "#AskBoris" Twitter chat, the London Mayor told a user that his City Hall administration had brought "4,900 back into use, empty homes at lowest level snce 1970s - and we are spending £15 more".

Other Twitter users express shock at the scale of the Mayor's apparently ambitious budget to save empty homes.

The London Mayor likely fell foul of Twitter's 140 character limit in trying to refer to City Hall's £15 million scheme to bring some of London's 72,457 empty homes back into use.
However, the fact that just one percent of the £15 million pot was spent in 2012/2013 to save just eight empty homes may suggest the Mayor's £15 budget might not seem so inaccurate.
