A punter who won more than £30,000 on a football accumulator has lost his winnings after losing another bet.
Steve Richards, 56, placed a £10 bet and was rewarded with £39,000 after successfully predicting the results of 12 football matches.
The roofing contractor decided to pocket just £9,000 of his winnings and placed the remaining £30,000 on a bet that Wales would beat Australia in the rugby on Saturday.
Australia's 30-26 victory meant Mr Richards lost a staggering £30,000, as well as the £25,000 he stood to gain.
"If I didn't think we were going to win, I wouldn't have bet," a remarkably pragmatic Mr Richards said.
At times like this, it is worth remembering Homer Simpson's stand against Gamblor.
