TV TONIGHT: Monday 9 December - Can Attraction Out-Do Themselves For Royalty?

Surely something for everyone in this evening's bag? But do let us know if you've spotted something we missed in our picks of the night...

The Royal Variety Performance - iTV, 7.30pm

If this year's bill looks distinctly 'poppy' with names like Gary Barlow, Jessie J and Olly Murs - and definitely the safe side of pop come to that, no twerking likely - perhaps it was always thus. Something old with Torvill and Dean celebrating the 30th anniversary (yes, really!) of their Olympic routine 'Bolero', and something new with BGT's stunning Attraction dance troupe will be looking to out-do themselves in front of royalty on a fresh stage. Plus some comedians including Jimmy Carr, Jason Byrne and Seann Walsh to bring it some fizz. John Bishop hosts and, if in doubt... there's always Gareth Malone. All in all, there are harder things to watch on a cold night. (Watch Attraction's BGT final-winning performance below...)

Great British Garden Revival - BBC2, 7pm

Can this do for the British outdoors what Mary Berry and co have done for our ovens? This be the thinking, or the hoping, on the part of Beeb bosses, as Monty Don springs back into action, leading a gang of experts whose mission is to inspire the nation into re-thinking our exteriors. It's a committed expedition - we'll be meeting two a night for the next week. If that lot can't get you picking up the pinking shears, nothing will.

Liberty of London - Channel4, 9pm

Last week's debut of this two-parter got certain observers wondering if the American managing director of one of London's flagship stories, Ed "jazz hands, people" Burstell hadn't gone and 'pulled a Ratner', in describing some of the sanctified goods under his watchful eye nothing more than "piles of junk". This week, Ed - who personally chooses what Manolo Blahnik shoes will be sold inside the mock-Tudor walls is off to London Fashion Week to bring high fashion to the eclectic customers. This programme definitely sits in the GP category, for which read (the overused, sorry) 'guilty pleasure'.
