RoboSimian, Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory's DARPA Robotics Challenge Entry, Is Awesome

This Is RoboSimian. He's Awesome

Although he has a silly name and looks like a spider with not enough legs, RoboSimian has been showing off his skills at the DARPA Robotics Challenge.

Built by Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the "ape-like disaster recovery robot" designed for search and rescue in dangerous and risky situations.

As you can see from the video it is adept - if a little slow - at a range of tasks from clearing obstacles, turning off valbves and tackling rocky terrain.

RoboSimian came third overall in the competition behind Carnegie Mellon's CHIMP and the all-around winner, SCHAFT. A full list can be viewed here.

Weirdly, RoboSimian is also known as 'Clive'.
